Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Who Should Use a Stairlift?
Stairlifts are appropriate for anyone who has difficulty walking up or down the stairs.
My stairway has a turn in it. Can a stair lift be installed?
YES! HME Accessibility offers full curved stair lifts that can be installed in almost any stairway application.
How wide do my stairs need to be to install a StairLift?
Most standard stairways are more than wide enough to install a stair lift. Typically a minimum of 30 inches is enough room to install one with lots of room left over for others to use the stairs.
How long does installation take?
Depending on your stairway and home, installation only takes approximately 4-6 hours for standard straight stair lifts, and less than a day for custom curved stairlifts.
What is the installation process?
Our trained technicians take about a half day to install on-site.
Does the track attach to the wall or to the steps?
The stair lift track installs directly to your steps, meaning no modifications to your studs or structure of your walls.
How far from the wall will the track be?
Each installation varies, but a stair lift can typically be installed about 6 inches from the wall
What is the weight capacity?
Bruno stair lifts offer a 275 pound (ElectraRide LT) or 400 pound (Elite Straight Stairlift & Curved) weight capacity, depending on the model you choose.
Does your company match other peoples prices?
Yes, HME Accessibility will guarantee our pricing and match for all stairlifts and lifts.
Do you have stair lifts that work outdoors?
Yes we have models that are weather resistant and specially made for outdoor use.
What is the Warranty?
Bruno stair lifts offer the best manufacturer warranty in the industry – Five years for major components and two years on parts. HME Accessibility offers you an additional 1 year labour warranty as well.
Do you have financing available?
Financing is available for most products.
Will I be charged taxes for my stair lift?
Stairlifts are exempt from taxes in Canada, and therefore HST is not applicable when you purchase a Stair Lift from HME Accessibility.
Do you have straight stair lifts in stock for immediate installation?
We usually stock straight stair lifts for immediate installation. Contact us today and we will make every effort to make your home accessible as soon as possible!
